World Cup 2014: Opening Day Action and Group Seeds
World Cup 2014: Opening Day Action and Group Seeds The month of the best soccer in the world is upon us and before the action gets underway, here is the lowdown for this year.In the world of international soccer there are the usual favorites: Argentina, Brazil, Germany, Italy, Spain, etc. But many of the countries that have qualified for this years tournament could pose serious threat to the big names. In light of the kickoff tomorrow, Online Casino Reports breaks down the World Cup by group to look at the favorites and to watch for the underdogs.Group A: Brazil, Croatia, Mexico, CameroonThis will be an excellent group to watch but hands down the home team are the outright favorites for this one. Brazil are focused on winning each and every game this year on the road to the knockout rounds and hopefully they will give their home country exactly what they want. Look out for Mexico to finish in second place in the group.Group B: Australia, Chile, Spain, NetherlandsWhat can be said about this group? The competition will be better than any other group in the tournament hands down. The defending World Champions, Spain, and the second place Netherlands are in this group so expect fast and excellent soccer here. Spain are the outright favorites but all eyes should be on the Netherlands and Chile.Group C: Columbia, Greece, Ivory Coast, JapanThe group of wild cards is group C as any of these teams could advance. There is talent on each team even though not a one is a favorite to win the World Cup. Due to the home team crowds, Columbia is the favorite and the young talent on their side should get them through to the knockout stage. Greece is the sleeper in Group C and you shouldn’t be surprised if they make it through as well.Group D: Costa Rica, England, Italy, UruguayThis is another group which promises to please the crowds. Excluding Costa Rica (also a great team) all others are world class powerhouse teams that could clean up the entire tournament let alone the group stage. Will England be the favorite here or will the top seed Italy take Group D in the end?Group E: Ecuador, France, Honduras, SwitzerlandFrance lucked out on this draw with the lowest seed Switzerland and the rest of the teams are incredibly beatable. The French are the big time favorites here and have basically received a free hall pass to the next round. Watch out for Ecuador to surprise all.Group F: Argentina, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Iran, NigeriaIf France lucked out in Group E, so is the same for Argentina in Group F. There is not too much to say here, Argentina is one of the best teams in the world right now and everyone should watch for high scoring games whenever Argentina is around. The second place could go either way Iran could actually be the sleeper.Group G: Germany, Ghana, Portugal, United StatesZe Germans are coming…This round is all about Germany and the only question is will Portugal, Ghana or the US finish in second. It is so close between these 3 teams that it could go anywhere. Did the US make a mistake by leaving the veteran Landon Donovan off the roster or will their younger squad be able to pull through? Portugal is probably the team for second place here.Group H: Algeria, Belgium, Russia, South KoreaThis will be an interesting group and it could go to either Belgium, Russia or South Korea. Algeria should be on the bottom leaving it open for one of the other 3. Belgium has the favorite status nailed but Russia could pose a threat, as could South Korea. If you can’t watch the games on your television, then it’s time to check out an online sportsbook like bet365. They offer lines on all games throughout the tourney and live feeds for many of the games right on the site. It’s gonna be a wild month and not one that should be overlooked.
